Gigacities

AUSTIN - BERLIN

The GIGACITIES COLLECTIVE is a transnational collaborative project that began with an exploration of the impact of Tesla’s Gigafactories in Austin and Berlin, led by Randy Lewis (AMS), Craig Campbell (Anthro), and Florian Grundmüller (European Ethnology). This recently launched project asks: What does it mean to live in the shadow of the biggest factory in the world? What are the impact of Musk’s companies on these two very different cities? The project will include unique publications, creative work, and public symposia.

Austin

Why Austin? Actually it is Del Valle, an unincorporated area just east of Austin's city limits.

Berlin

Why Berlin? Actually, it is in Grünheide, Brandenburg, Germany.
